Bedouin Roads

Bedouin Roads 2016-12-05T16:57:36+00:00

Project Description

Most of Wadi Rum’s summits had been first climbed by bedouins, hunting or looking for water, then as a game. These ascents are done by walking and scrambling and a few rock climbing passages.

Bedouin roads are usually very exposed. Mountain and desert scenery seen during a Bedouin’s route are unique to this part of the world. They are local alpine low grades routes that were mainly used to get to summits and plateaus to hunt wild animals. Originally, these routes were climbed without ropes, but grades go up to 5c. Nowadays, ropes are needed for abseiling or climbing.

Bedouin routes are a unique way of passage through our mountains. Moving through variety of panoramas in the ever changing rock of Wadi Rum, you will reach white domes, climb pink slabs, traverse mushroomed walls and observe way like formations. You will find yourself in the remote canyons. You will also enjoy jumping over crevasses and admire from the summit the 360 views on the desert of Rum.

TO COMPLETE THE BEDOUIN ROADS, YOU SHOULD HAVE EXPERIENCE IN MOUNTAINEERING – ABSEILING BY ROPE AND KNOWLEDGE IN USING SAFETY EQUIPMENT.

Please arrive one day early to stay overnight in our Bedouin camp to discuss about our route and prepare our equipment. Then we can start climbing early morning. After the climb, you can choose to stay in our Bedouin camp again or go back to rum village.
